School students in cities around the world are back at parliament buildings, striking for climate change action.
We are school students aged 8-18 from cities and towns across New Zealand. The 17-year-old was one of 20 students who attended a rally in the Sydney CBD to mark the day of action despite coronavirus restrictions. She said completing Year 12 had been stressful given the uncertainty around the coronavirus but she hasn’t stopped her climate activism.

On the 20th and 27th September, people from over 150 countries around the world are taking part in the Global Climate Strike. School strikers were also expected to protest in front of Brisbane Parliament House, Australia’s Parliament House in Canberra and Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner’s electorate office. We are striking from school to tell our politicians to take our futures seriously and treat climate change for what it is - a crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change releases reports every six years on the severity of our impact on the planet. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.
